*Folks even as I post this, the pall of smoke fills our skies turning daylight into dusk and filling the air with smoke and ash. The chickens have gone back to roost so dark is it.

"If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, Then will I hear from heaven and heal their lands."

The sky is grey though not with rain
The smoke pall hovers ever near
And covers all this land of grain
Men look up and women fear

Fire has come to curse the land
A land made sere without the rain
While fire-fighters take a stand
Devastation still comes again

I smell the smoke and feel the fear
While all, make plans to flee this pain
The threat of fire is drawing near
In a land not touched by rain

The gloom of dusk surrounds this place
The blood red sun will shine in vain
We hide our eyes - cover the face
For fire has come to us again

With trepid hearts we watch and wait
The see the smoke palls rise again
With neighbours we commiserate
Can do naught else but share their pain

And worst of all is no-one knows
Which way the fire will move and claim
our lives and homes, while river flows
are clogged because there is no rain

And we here in this land of dust
Beg your prayers, to rise again
We stay and fight because we must
Please pray for rain, please pray for rain.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

Kethry--I wrote almost this same poem in October when the same thing happened here in Southern California.  Still now when the wind blows, the ash fills the sky.  I pray you get rain...I have read about the terrible fires.

beautifully and desperately written, I can feel it.

I do believe God can heal the lands and with prayers hold the faith that He will.
I'm certainly praying NOW.

Hang on.

Hello Lynne

Your words chilled me to the bone and as I type I can smell the smoke from the bushfires coming through my window.  I also looked on in horror at the devastation in Canberra, as well as the other bushfires in Victoria and New South Wales.  When will all this devastation and tragedy end?  I hope all is well with you.

Take care....Sue

Lynne, You have my prayers and so do the people of Canberra and all that are affected by this. Having it happen here in NSW and practically in my own back yard; I understand their fears. The sun was blood red here too yesterday.

I pray for rain.

hugs my dear hugs
A well written poem.

Oh dear Keth, I hope you are well and all those in your neighbourhood.
I didn't know, haven't seen the news for days, must be awful frightening.
I'm not religious but I pray for you anyway.

Take care

Keth beloved one, I know you were okay a hour or so ago and if anything happens you’ll let me know. This is a brilliantly written poem beloved one, and of course I’m praying for rain for you. as I said if it comes near you call me I have a bucket ready and I’m not afraid to use it.

Take care beloved one you know I worry, As I said to Krissy that proves it don’t you think? of course it does. She'll have to stand in line.

You know I love this utterly, utterly utterly

Kethry, My heart and prayers go out to you and your countrymen....Here in Northern CA.,  our fire season brings this same worry and smell and color of the sun...always being ready to move, fast! Ever wondering will it reach town....all late spring, summer and early fall. The unpredictable winds ever changing as you mentioned.

May we all pray for rain and safety for all of you.  God bless, Hugs, Pat

Yes, Kethry, there have been some very bad fires here in Florida and my nephew has had to go  try help put them out. (He works with Florida State Forestry). The fear as well as the smoke is awful. It has taken weeks before.

I am praying for all of you....

This literally gave me chills... you've written the desperation brilliantly.

I know I'm late... but I hope you know you're ALWAYS in my prayers, dear friend. *S*

Stay safe...
