Creepy Crawlies
(Villanelle)

Out from this troubled night of sleep,
I fear not that the nightmare brings
The kinds of things that crawl and creep.

Though night may bring my eyes to weep,
My spirit flies on angel’s wings
Out from this troubled night of sleep.

I snuggle tight to thoughts that keep
Away the threat of evil’s sting;
The kinds of things that crawl and creep.

I don’t count minutes nor count sheep,
But count on blessings more that spring
Out from this troubled night of sleep.

When Satan tries my soul to reap,
I give to Jesus Christ my King
The kinds of things that crawl and creep.

My heart does dance and soul does leap
When Jesus takes and Jesus flings
Out from this troubled night of sleep
The kinds of things that crawl and creep.

You've managed this style well leaning on our Lord when the 'creepy crawly' things taunt your tired mind.

  God bless

You certainly make every form of poetry look like a piece of cake - that is, until I try it - nice job Bob.

Thank you Rae and Sharon for taking the time to read my villanelle and for your kind comments. I'm glad that you both enjoyed reading and, yes, you are both right in stating that this is a style or form of writing poetry and quite a strict form at that and a nice challenge if anyone would like to try to write one themselves... The form is as follows:

quote:
A 19-line poem of fixed form consisting of five tercets and a final quatrain on two rhymes, with the first and third lines of the first tercet repeated alternately as a refrain closing the succeeding stanzas and joined as the final couplet of the quatrain.

Smiles. Simple. Right?

God bless and thank you much again to both of you.

Yikes...simple? I'd really like to try a villanelle, Bob-once I've investigated all the other words you've thrown here!

I read this because of the title; our minds must be on a kind of sync-"creepy-crawlies", I've used "creepy-crawls" lately.

I enjoyed the flight from dark to light; especially your use of "leap".

Thanks for the read.
