they came back, the smiles-
after gruelling, savage wings
arrested by shocking carnality
and torpid, quicksand sidewalks;

wishes of solace, finally, became
their guardians
and smiles returned to stay

glad the smiles are back after such an eerie interlude as "quicksand sidewalks"
