There was a scent on the north wind that slammed into Buffalo each winter. You might ask, how is it that frozen air, so cold it held crystals of freeze in tiny molecules within itself, could carry scent at all. I cannot say. But, it was a smell, of factory heat. the burn of wood in fireplace. The cold and fractured smell of winter wafting off the frozen lake. An aroma of culture, diverse, the smell of winter baking, escaping, out to children waddling in fat little snow suits. The soft snowflutter of scent as snowflakes fall upon, featherlight glistening in sun, they melt on face leaving behind a puddle of chill. And then there was just the cold somehow having a scent all it's own. In an icy inhale of air is breathed, the very essence of winter season. WhiteRose 10/21/02 "my reflection becomes me" |

You wrote of the very essence of winter up here in Ontario! It won't be long now! I love winter, but then I also love spring, fall and summer ! I'm always in a state of anticipation as one season leaves to usher in a new one! Very well done! EA |

This is soooooooo beautiful, sweet friend, and may Buffalo this winter be just as lovely as always and offer you with the blessings of sharing and togetherness that comes with the seasonal song! Linda, Buffalo is not too far away from Ontario, as a matter of fact, when I lived there, I went to Canada often. I imagine the winters in both places are quite similar and I don't envy you your geographical location a single bit. I'm happy here in the south where it only snows every other year, it only lasts for about a week, and no one has ever even heard of snow tires Dea, thanks for reading and responding. Noah, I don't live in the north anymore. We do get snow here from time to time, but nothing like a New York winter. Thanks for reading and responding. Dixie, thank you dear friend. You probably don't see much snow down there huh? Nice to see you by the way, you stay away too long you know. Maree, Thanks for reading and responding. Snow is best taken in small amounts. In New York, there is no such thing. Pat, thank you for reading and responding. Isn't it amazing how we can recall the "scent" of something? Donna, thank you so much for reading and responding. I'm glad you enjoyed my little winter poem. Sy, Thanks for reading and responding. Your comments are always appreciated. |
