Oh let me hold you,
And dry your silent tears.
In the sharing of this moment,
Tell me of the years.

Living all alone,
In the cold of night.
Abandoned by hope,
Shivering in fright.

There is no where to turn,
Your dreams cast away....
...A nervous breakdown,
Your mind began to stray.

Deeper into depression,
So alcohol became your friend.
In the cruel, cold devastation,
Where the tunnel had no end.

This is life on the streets,
Disillusioned without a home
Just waiting for death,
Wandering, painfully alone.

Your heart hit the pavement,
Like a snowflake drifting to ground.
Melting into oblivion,
Not even making a sound.

The world rushes by,
As your time stands still.
And in hours of seconds,
Despair murders your will.

I will hold you,
As your spirit drifts above.
Nothing left in this life....
You only wanted love.

I work with the homeless in distributing food to them and am familiar with the despair ,lonliness, and hunger for love.. .There are so many here in Hawaii and most are mentally ill by the time they have been homeless just a few months...

And I might boldly add to this,
that I was homeless once at 17...no place to go....
Fortunately someone had mercy on me and allowed me to use their address when I applied for jobs....It was only a month or two that I ate from trash dumpsters and slept in the daytime so I wouldn't be murdered or raped.
I know of the fear and the shattered hope and yet I
was freed to break viscious cycle in a short time.

Thanks for reading this and please think about those in the streets, without making judgements and turning away....

Poetry is:
Passion, imagination and intellect running together.

Aloha with warmest regards, Cheryl Stewart Koomoa

powerful story and poem... we should all think more of the ones less fortuante than we are, and save judgement for God.

~Very nice, glad that I spotted this in my quick little visit. Just last week my fiance invited a homeless man (Gerry) to our place for dinner and a bed on a cold, cold night. I'm glad for your spreading the awareness, sharing your own story,...*Peace.

Thanks for the responses. It all starts with individuals making a decision to reach out and do it. I am very touched in heart when I hear of people responding in love with actions.
God bless you all!
