(Merry Christmas -- fresh out the oven, so to say -- it was a fun challenge... Enjoy & let me know the details, ok?) -MVS ----------------------------------------------------------------- "Film Noir" Copyright 2002 by: MARK V SHELDON The sound of her heels Approaching me Across the wooden floor Made me notice her legs... She was a good looking dame... Walked in clutching her handbag Like a small dog that would bite you If you got too close... Her perfume lingered Like the smoke from my cigarette And I could tell by the way She asked my name That I'd be getting in deep. I offered her a chair But she preferred a drink Scotch On the rocks Like her marriage. As she took the glass I gave her The diamond on her hand Seemed to hide her Graceful fingers... At least I knew Dinner tonight Would be more interesting Than the usual... "AS ABOVE SO BELOW" |

Straight out of a Dashiel Hammett book, could easily picture Sam Spade saying all this. Excellent! |

Her husband showed up long straight nose pointed to the floor, the other end stuck in a pie that looked like Dennis The Menace's ol' man complete with pocket protector. I was more concerned about his lackey with the punched face and dead eyes. He had a scar from the corner of his yap to his cauliflower ear, but I wasn't bitin'. It was the mark of the squealer, I knew it, he knew I knew it. So when he told me to dangle I cracked wise and asked him who he dueled. I would have called it a mean little smile but the scar dragged it across city limits and before I knew it............ |

"Scotch On the rocks Like her marriage." LOL, this really is an oldie, but a goodie. I saw this scene, in black and white. Damn, you are good with the imagery. |

The neon sign blinks outside my window as I reach for the bottle in the lower right drawer of my desk. One more drink and a cigarette and maybe I can forget the dame and get some sleep. paladin |

Nancy, now really... trixiegrrrl: thanks for the challenge. Raph: I'm not familiar with Hammett but tried to put myself into a Bogart kind-of character... Balladeer... I'm not familiar with him either, but I guess that's the genre I was going for...? Martie -- thank you. Richard -- I'm most flattered by your continuation. Now, where does the story go from here...? Ethel, thank you for reading -- glad you enjoyed. Kacy, I'm still learning from some of the masters here at PIP... Paladin, it's never that easy... Hey James -- thank you for the enthusiastic suggestion... maybe I'll chip away at it every now and then... -MVS "AS ABOVE SO BELOW" |

Mark Dashiell Hammett wrote the Maltese Falcon and is the creator of Sam Spade who was played so memorably by Bogart. raph |

There was a wad of centuries rolling through the still wet glass rings on my desk top I noticed the ink didn't run which in my business is not always the case |
