Maple and Pine

Limbs of strength over the white forest's edge
With roots running deep 'neath the barren hedge
Strong limbs bare of leaf, as the floor turns white
Bathed in the shimmer of crystal moon's light

Strong as oak yet tender as the willow
At the edge of a white winter pillow
Thick sap running pure sweet allure
The evergreen pines as nettles endure

Tender buds her cones waiting to fall
At the feet of the maple, standing so tall
Whispers in the wind to her lover
As flakes gently fall, blanket's cover

Blends of sweet and of cool in become
Under cover of silence, yet quotient and sum
To begin just dessert over ice fallen cone
Yet the topping so sweet drizzled slowly bemoan

In the picture imagined, in the picture so clear
As the Maple and Pine make such harmony dear
Cup so gently the cone filled with cold crystal ice
Tops the syrup to make a treat ever so nice

Barry and ThisDiamond

When I see the dynamic duo on a post I know I am in for a pleasure tresure.  This was just so well done, the imagery fantastic, and I get to keep the smile it made.  Thank you!

Barry and Kathleen,
Once more a treasure to keep to read over and over.
Btw, when I was small, and on the rare occassions of
snow around where we lived, my Mom would find some of
the clean snow and fix us what she called "snow cream.
I loved it. The cone filled with ice and syrup on top
brought back that "sweet" memory. Do people still eat "snow cream"?

"Love makes the world go around"
~~with love and hugs from Ethel~~

record....I WASN'T...wasn't what?

Oh yeah,  hearing the whisper in my ear...
was not under duress to make this remark...

Let the record show....

She didn't make me do this!!!!!

One last comment....(grinning an evil grin
as I post this)

Yes, you think with those cones
of white and syrup you will win
all the treats and doggy bones
here and now thru thick....
Or thin.

You made me write each word
that came to fall upon the snow.
You threatened this little bird
to clip it’s wings, do they know?

I write because I am the male
of the duet you shared with me.
I give you words, tell my tale
cause that dear heart...
Is my destiny!!

I sit and slurp on this honeyed ice
cause I was the syrup maker here
I sit and don’t burp, always nice
and for this....I win....my dear!!!

A beautiful and luscious poem by two of my favorite writers.
