Listening to every heart

The Last Warm Day

Fall whispered,
a crisp tinge to its breath,
I’m coming

but I,
I stood in the last vestige
of warm sun,
flung open my arms,
and took in the heat,
casting my own shadow…

Sun beamed upon my face,
and whispered
would you like one more warm day?
How could I say no?

In my joy, one last bloom
began to rise,
and I waited,
with open arms
to share with it
the warmth of the Sun

and we watched
as Sun moved south
to winter

but Sun said
only for a few months
because she promised
to return
to warm my days
to let me fling open my arms
to welcome bees buzzing
to let the sultry warm
curl my petals

and she always keeps
her promise.

Even if you hadn't come up with your pen name, we'd have by now.

Karilea - oh, this warms me up as we are supposed to get snow to-morrow!! Yikes. Fall was too short here and I miss the brilliant colours which have been raked away. Enjoyed this. hugs, Chris

The flowers and the peom are beautiful, Karilea. There was no warmth here today. It was very cold.

The sun's promise to return is crucial to those of us who are solar powered...Karilea, you captured the essence of those last warm days just before the onset of winter...It's that promised return that gets us through the snow and cold...

...believe what your heart feels...

I, for one can vouch for that
someone is getting as artistic with her photography as she is her poetry...
and that is a very cool thing...
or in this case..a very warm thing

Beautiful K...poem and pics!!!

Karilea, this is absolutely fantastic. So full of hope and promise. A keeper as a reminder of sun to come! Hooray for you.

And you are getting sooo good with the camera. Brava!

Ah Karilea..we had one of those days here last Sunday, in the 70's.  Another warm thought to pull from our memory bank during the cold winter ahead.
Beautifully done...wonderful pic.

The warmth of your own sunny rays come shining through this exquisitely written piece of fine poetry. Divine--literally!--in style and content. Karilea, I save so much of your poetry, that I wish that I could buy a book of your poetic works which I could proudly display on my bookcase!

~ extra warm hugs for this beauty

Sunshine, this must be my favorite of yours that I've read. It is beautifully and vividly done. I felt right there in your stead, taking in every ray and joy of your stand. Lovely, lovely, lovely!

Very nice, Kari. I can feel the warm touch of the sun. Though it is completely gone from my neighborhood.

I had to come back in and tell you that I love this:

to let the sultry warm
                        curl my petals

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Great imagery, Karilea.  I have just one suggestion.  Perhaps you could add in a verse about a kitty flying across the sky courtesy of ol' Long John's boot.  Whatta ya think?  Wouldn't that be sweet?  lol

Somehow, I missed this one, Karilea... but it belongs up on the top again so I'm glad I found it...
I love the promise of spring held deep within it... and it gives me hope, that I too... will see spring this year

And you do,  you warm our days,  no matter
the chill that might be outside...your words
always bring a comfort to us,  and a feel
of warmth and sunlight,  even when the sun
does not shine...
