"I'll have scotch" I said as I hugged the stool with my behind hoping to find some comfort there. "A double shot over ice-- and then just splash the soda--slow." The drummer? He was late again. Then the truck was packed all wrong. Whoever did it, forgot egg crates.. tonight, I knew--there was no 'rise'... Peppy would stand--I knew he would-- his ego hated the obscure of amps and trees that sparked the light. It would be that "hard day's night". The bus broke down outside Leesville, the guys tucked their hair beneath their hats. I was singing "Born To Lose..."-- then Johnny told me to shut up. He kissed me on my cheek and grinned--my Johnny? No--he could not sin. But then he only played rhythm-- usually we turned him down-- claiming bad cords on a monitor.. until of course, he let harp sing. Then Johnny never could be stopped. Bryan he was Beautiful... his hair was rainbows, just like mink. Wavelets flowing his remorse, I used to brush it from beneath before he walked onstage. Steve always hid behind a suit-- a hat and shades and he could play-- fulfilled--he let that lead guitar tattoe in spine his inner cries so deep within-- without--our minds. Mother Bruce worked the sound board-- always bumming cigarettes. A beauty of the Greek, he was, but somehow always lacked the grace asking every woman's favor, he told me once he believed in increased odds. And there I was, one of the guys the lonely girl that graced the crew. I duct-taped line across the stage-- I learned to roll the cords up loose-- avoiding crimp of wire... * * * Denny's was, always strange-- cops in glare of uniform as we stumbled in from bus-- once a waitress quit on the spot-- we sat at her station. I didn't blame her one damn bit. In fact, I should have followed her. They asked who had worked that night-- not one of us remembered... Who had worked the door or floor and who had challenge of the stage-- who had tuned up which guitar... Which city had put up with us... * * * I fell to sleep right at the bar-- I used my purse for pillow. A customer sang "Lonely girl" and I just smiled there in my bed. Serenity...I like this for the fact you have painted a picture with words of a way of life I'd not have known; causing me to feel I was there, observing this little slice of life. Your talent as a writer is outstanding I always enjoy whatever you post, not so much for content, but, for the creativity you use so well to express it. Thanking you for sharing your talent with us. Warm regards, Pat ![]() ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. |
