"You should be realistic",
Is what I'm often told.
"You are not getting younger,
In fact you're growing old!"

I tried my hand at rodeo-
I strove to be the best,
I always seemed to come up short,
I never passed the test.

Now all I have are memories,
Beneath this hat of mine,
Drifting like a tumbleweed,
Not knowing what I'll find.

Anticipating greener grass-
With each and every fence.
A dream that never comes to pass-
Some say I have no sense.

But still I have to travel,
It's what I do the best...
If you still need a reason,
That's the way it is out West.

I've never been our west, but always wanted to go.  Much enjoyed!

the piece is really cool though; i understand the wanderlust. it can get really bad sometimes.

I guess Erma Bombeck was right--- "The Grass Is Greener Over The Septic Tank"! hehe

I enjoyed this poem! --I hope you enjoy your travels!

P.S. You don't look old!

Gunslinger,
Leave it to a Californian to be confused! Excellent write as always.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
