Where is the joy, the untold happiness promised so long ago? In the simple act of living! Once we can learn to recognize and control our ~expectations~, then we'll be able to renew a sense of gladness. Contentment seems to come with genuine appreciation of the ~gift~ of being alive, able to participate and partake in the changing seasons of all life. Whether we are of rags or riches, it matters not, for we'll know comfort with the ~acceptance~ of who we are. Peace will fill our hearts when we let go ~expectations~ and, live each day ~as though it really were our last~. We can start now, with the next precious breath of life we take, exhaling back respect and awe for the privilege of being alive. ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. |

regards2you, this is a wonderful read, I just wish we could all read it and change our ways, I must say often I think this way, but the truth of it seems to be that it is not that easy, we are creatures of habit and society, I am sure that people in rags would love to try the riches even for a day, but the people with riches, not visa versa. I hope that you live the way you write, you would surely be a lucky person indeed. Sincerely Rick. |

Rick, I do! I, by most standards live in rags, as well. Although, I've also been quite wealthy. It has taken many chapters of life to get to this stage, with a unbelievably difficult childhood, many heartaches, physical problems, and problems with others. And, you probably need to have been broken a few times to really develop this attitude. I was! I believe you either sink or swim. I love to swim! (smiling!) I also am not ~Lucky~ I am ~BLESSED~ Glad you enjoyed it anyway. ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. Good, Good, Good... I wish to become a great poet some day, but it will only come in time. Til then, I shall write my poems, and wait. |

"We can start now, with the next precious breath of life we take, exhaling back respect and awe for the privilege of being alive." Yay!!! Oh Patricia, I just love this, sweet friend, contentment comes from the small packages of life and may we all exhale with a blessing! (kiss on cheek) I love this, sweet friend, this is excellent, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Patricia, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Thanks to all of you for responding. For me it is always remembering who I am, and who God is. And, recognizing miracles when they happen..... and, they happen all the time..... I have a standing joke with my grandchildren about the lady at Christmas time, looking for a parking spot in an already jammed up lot. She prayed, "Oh, please, God, find a parking spot for me." Just then in front of her a car pulled out and she said "Oh, never mind, God, I found one myself!" What does God have to do with this poem? He knew what I always wanted, it was my job to figure out what He wanted. Learning to curtail 'expectations' was a major part. Learning to enjoy whatever was in front of me to enjoy, or, at least to appreciate, though sometimes not much, was the key... Again, thanks, Warm Regards, Pat ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. |

Sue and Gentle Spirit, Thank you. Glad you liked this poem. I like re-reading it myself, for it is so easy to fall back into old patterns. I find it re-centers me. I appreciate your comments. Hugs to both of you. ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. |

(Did you all notice she lives in "Rags")?....Didja notice?..Didja? From rags to riches to rags....we all come into this world with nothing and leave the same way...it's the riches we try to leave behind to someone else who can leave with nothing.....I've been to the top, back to the bottom, then I reached middle age and didn't care. I've found "material" things make me happy when I pass them off to someone else....good write [This message has been edited by Toerag (11-15-2002 07:47 AM).] |

Kethry...thank you, you are kind. Toe...I utterly adore your sense of humor. Thanks for the laugh! BTW: I said, by most standards,(of people I know) And, given my true nature....these are rags to 'it'.....but, they are clean, just not from Nordstroms or Macy's. Nothing like a good thrift shop, too.... smiling..... Thanks for the grin, I needed that! Oh, you revised..... Well, it really was from rags to riches to rags.....never been sorry for decisions made in that regard. Hugs to you both, Pat ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. These are truly words to live by Pat! I too look for the blessings in each new day and try to ~accept~ what is given me without ~expecting~ more. Of course, my "Blessing"s are not so hard to count they greet me each morning and kiss me each night...(my son and daughter..the littlest "Blessing"s)I just thank God every night for my many blessings and pray for others to receive and appreciate the same. Thanks for reminding me of all this again this morning. You really are BLESSED!! Peace, love, light and happiness, Tammy Blessing |

What a wonderful write! *S* There's a lot to be said for contentment... if more people found it, the antacid companies would be out of business. *S* |

This is wonderfully expressed and a holds a great deal of meaning for me. It is one that I am adding to my treasure trove of collectable poetry. As I have often said to my daughters, whose outsides match their beautiful insides--"Greet each day with a K.I.S.S."--Keep it simple, sweetheart. ~ sending huge happy huggy hugs Linda |

Pat, I know that I replied to this poem earlier, but since it was bumped back to the top, I read it again. I'm certainly glad that I did. It's going into my "keeper" file, too. It really makes the reader think about what they have to be thankful for. You are a very special person, Pat, with a very tender, compassionate, and "blessed" heart. Thanks again, for sharing your feelings and your heart with us through your poetry. "Love makes the world go around" |
