Birthday Lament

I'm about to be a year older
I should be happy but I'm not
I'd rather be a teenager or just
a little snot

All the things I used to do
and never questioned how
I could have raised a lot more hell
and laughed about it now

I wish I knew but, didn't then
the beauty that I had
The brains, the glow, the fearlessness
was good to be so bad

Well, here I am the years moved on
I lied, I'm glad to be
I'm pretty lucky after all
and happy to be me

Oh Lyra, thank you for the beautiful card.

One of the guys at work last week called me mom. It hit me like a ton of bricks, since I don't have kids of my own. Those days of calling me "sis" I guess are gone...Scares me a little.
