Rubber and Belts

I burnt one belt and stretched another,
and then thought should I go
and have the 3rd one
down it smooth and let it play me so...

As days go, this was one rough day
went out to have a bite.
Before I left I stuffed small rug
to wash, while I left sight (site).
Returning I, when opened door
choked on that wretched smell,
burning belt of the machine
left smoke-filled house to tell
how dumb I was to try to clean
not staying 'round to see
that it would come out in the wash
like brand new rug for me.

So opened windows, turned on fans
then left the smoke to drift
when parking, noticed I, my gear
not indicating shift.
I left to buy a brand new belt,
while parking tried to feel
which gear was which, how could I tell
these belts lost their appeal..

I figured out I had two wrongs
and might as well make three.
So I decided why not have
another belt for me...

Why not. I think by then I would have felt like a belt myself.

I like how you used "belt" in this poem.  Very clever.

WR..yup, that is exactly what the mechanic at the repair shop suggested and since I was across from the town tavern...I wouldn't have to worry about walking home. (of course the day was all uphill from there.

Thanks LongJohn..I didn't expect to write about  belts but Toerags rubber and windshield discussion got me to thinking about my yesterday's events...

I have found that there is always room for another belt.

Thank you.

You bought yourself a new belt.
When that happened to us,
we had to buy a new washer!
