She is where it all began
She is how it started
This road of many twists and turns
that has left me broken-hearted
She opened up this door
and though others have walked through
Only she can close it
But she's long gone
And everything's wrong
and now I don't know what to do

to return to you

Have you ever had someone open up your eyes
when you didn't even realize they were closed?
Someone who showed you your heart's secret treasure
there in front of your gaze, right under your nose
Someone who made your colors shine brighter
A rainbow of hues you never noticed before
Someone who led you with a hand and a smile
into a world that offered you so much more

See where it all began
Come see how it started
This rocky road of ups and downs
that has left me broken-hearted
See this lonely open door
that others have walked through
Only she can close it
But she's long gone
And I'm no longer strong
enough to do what I need to do

to return to you

Have you ever wished you could turn back time
And rewrite the book of your days?
Would you correct the mistakes your heart once made
if someone offered to show you the ways?
Hindsight may be twenty-twenty
but I still see clear enough to make it back
to the woman who never stopped giving me
The love and happiness my heart now lacks

She is how it all will end
To finish what she started
She will guide me off this road
that has left me broken-hearted
She will close and lock this door
after I've walked through
Only her love can close it
In her arms I belong
My heart has known all along
No more wondering what to do

I return to you

Well done! Each section could stand alone, especially the first section, but together they make a beautifully plaintive song.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

I would tell you that I know this song.  But, then again, so do so many others.

Thank you.

Very touching. I can feel your pain, but remember that, "It is better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all."
You sound like a very loving man and I'm sure you will be able to fill this temporary void in your life with your own loving light.

Yup, I've been through that door and had it slammed in my face....so I stood there for a while pondering the reasons why, but the answers never came so I simply walked back out.  Life is too short to just stand there, but that doesn't mean it was easy to leave it all behind.  I hope in time you find the stength to heal your heart.  This hurt and I commend you for writing with such raw emotions.

May love and light always shine upon you!

I found your poem to be very tender and heart felt...something that is in large part lacking in our world, at least in my opinion...I loved it.

Great story, now take the steps that will lead you to the happy ending!  (I'm assuming this is about Rhonda).
