He died for me upon the tree He suffered all those strokes for me. And when they crowned him savagely those strokes were really not for he. They were for me. He had no sin! But all my sins on him were pinned. And how shall I ever begin to stop the way that I have been and pay my Lord for what he did? They tell me that I must get rid Of ways I practiced as a kid And things I've done while being hid. No, not for him those deadly nails, the sorrow of the women's wails, the lashes that upon him flailed, the lightning thunder and the gale That started as he said, "Oh God, Do not attribute sin--do not! They knowest not this subtle plot. in their tombs don't let them rot forever God!" He said, he said. It should be me, be me instead! He was all pure from foot to head. It should be me that they nailed dead. |
