From the safety of the shore I watch and I’m in awe
of the majesty and might of the sea of human need
that in waves crashes endlessly to the edge of fantasy
then recedes back and further back into folds of the undead.

Behind the skin of mortal flesh it lives and dreams a dream
made larger by the power of mind’s unfailing memory
till it creeps like a serpent with swift and deadly aim
and strikes and strikes again at the center of my being.

“Remember, remember,” rises off each crashing wave
air borne and on target to the gateway of my heart
where it penetrates the fortress of perceived reality
and twists me in the rough till exhausted I give up.

And there like a shell broken by the force of soul
I walk upon the sand of this worldly no-man’s land
that neither cleanses nor can sully the beauty of a love
brought to the surface like a long lost treasure chest.

The sea, the sea, the artful sea – how faithful must it be
to riches hidden far beneath appearances of real
yet reliably and constantly tide brings in memory
and lands it at my feet like an offering of peace.

I turn and yet it follows and drags me back again
down, down, down, to the core of inner truth
that like a two year old throws tantrums in my brain
and trails droplets of its tears in the wake of brand new days.

Of human need and memory the two entwine and meld
and stubborn face reality with all the force of love
destined to be the victor in the undertow of death
that strips human flesh from the energy of soul.

But a dreamer dreams a dream on the edge of fantasy
and flounders in the sea of human need and memory
till wind and tide and moon and life coincide to bring alive
the concept of true love amongst the concepts of this time!

A lot to ponder here. I like it though.

Thank you all so very much for your kind responses.  Life like the tide brings and takes away but always it is there though sometimes it seems as if it really couldn't care.
