Gone is the Green

Gone are woods of summer green
Of tree and fern, lush and serene
Into the opulence of fall
A grandeur to be seen by all

But amber, bronze of windswept fields
The swish of dancing grains it yields
A sunrise cast upon the whole
The place it rests within the soul

The harmony of sight and sound
That spins October leaves around
In lyrics of its lullabies
Rest only in a poet’s eyes

Elizabeth, Nicely done. Brings back
memories of long ago, of an Ohio autumn. Oh, I can see my breath and want one more jump into the leave pile, eagerly waiting the pumpkins and that Harvest moon...was without doubt my favorite season of "back east", especially the dramatic change of colors. Thanks

without surrender, be on good terms with all persons...

This is beautiful, as always, Liz. My favorite times of the year are spring and fall. Spring, because that is when the flowers bloom. And fall, because of all of the colorful leaves. Thank you for sharing this.

I remember a poem I did...some time back, with you sitting at a desk, writing wonderful poems, just like this one...I think it's time to bring it back, dust it off, a re-dedication of sorts...

Liz, this is as beautiful as this crisp Fall morning in New England. A day when all seems right with the world.

It bodes well with my cup of tea.

Hugs to you, Marti

You keep tempting me to come down there and make a leaf house with you on your yard so we can kick it all over the place.  Be careful what you wish for, it may come true
