Listening to every heart

Lovelock Promises

He first went just to see for himself,
pick up and feel those Apache tears,
but stayed for awhile to see a fly-stomping
fest, and it was there,
he learned to dance.

Iambe would have smiled, a little,
for she couldn’t seem to teach him
in his younger days, but there wasn’t
much she could do, with a brother who
would come to be a drifter,
so Konrad didn’t think much
of his efforts,
only that if she would shed those
overalls, put on a skirt,
he might still surprise her, one day…

he had a penchant for picking up
lost knowledge, and wore legends like chaps,
and did it well…
one never really noticed the swagger
of his mental gatherings,
they fit him so well.

He really preferred the first name given
to this banana belt area along I-80,
Big Meadow,
Where alfalfa takes over and
bees are raised special made
for their services marked as “invaluable”…

in The Crow’s Nest, he thought of Dillon,
how she would have
pigeon-holed those bouquets
of aromas sifting through from times of
then, to now,

and when he toyed with the Apache Tears, he
thought of Jake, just for a brief moment, and
wondered if his hardened feelings
would ever
feel like the obsidian
between his fingertips…

he wandered down the main road,
passed by Two Stiffs Motel, when he
came upon Pershing County Courthouse,
all round and sound,
heard the soft crying of a new divorcee,
who apparently
had gone round and round for some time,
still fingering the silver rope
round her neck
like a lifeline with no end

and it came to him,
Iambe’s words,
“she’ll dance soon,”

so when she looked up, and saw him,
she began to wipe away her tears,
for he gave an easy smile,
one that showed long white teeth under
his long nose,
pleasant and undemanding,

a Lovelock promise,
that someday, she would dance,
and forget
who had given her
the silver rope.

Noosed in silver, perhaps,

(smiles) You bring such justice and endless inspiration to lambe's story, sweet friend, I love it, I just love how in each part it seems he never goes down the same road more than twice, I love the exotic feel of this, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karilea, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
