The Angel

Beneath the quilted sky of grey
the biting chill from far up north
upon the cold face of beauty blows,
but no tears form within her eyes,
as the watcher stands alone,
high above those well worn paths,
upon which weary folk shall pass
as she stands her silent guard
always with her open arms
as travellers from distant lands
pass beneath her watchful eyes
for all eternity while she stands.

This poem was inspired by the Angel of the North, for those of you who are unaware of it, it is a giant peice of structure made out of iron that looks over the motorway into Newcastle (a city in North East England)
