Michelle in Cardboard In a cardboard box papers full of her name The crunch of years beginning to yellow pencils scrunched eyed alphabet crayon flowers and a mother’s face eyelashes long and black and then again and again I love you I love you I love you printed with tongue between lips frozen in time no lace or cut glass these fragile memories a nesting material a trap for tears still mixed with dust to cement years one on another until they are just a minute a piece of time big in this place I clean trying to make compartments out of treasure in a cardboard box papers full of your name |

Martie... I know I've been there...and I still have all of his stuff including his Dr.Suess "My Book About Me" all filled in in his childish handwriting. All his report cards and lovely Mother's Day cards he made in school. ~ lots and lots of hugs and tears Lyra |

Ahhhh, last Christmas, I presented my daughter's "My Book About Me" to her as a gift. She was more thrilled than I would have believed and going through it together was our treasure spent on bonding. You know, that has given me a grand idea, her favorite book was a novel done in pictures. I used to limit her borrowing of it when she was first learning to read because it had no words. Since training in the field of education, I've determined that was a big mistake. I purchased the book for using in my classroom. I'm thinking I'd better find it and present it to her this coming Christmas. Whaddya think? She's 32, but surely there are children with whom she can share it as time goes by, even if she has none of her own. Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

"these fragile memories a nesting material a trap for tears still mixed with dust to cement years one on another until they are just a minute a piece of time big in this place I clean trying to make compartments out of treasure in a cardboard box papers full of your name" (tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Martie, now you have me flooding in tears! (EXTRA BIG HUGS) My heart goes out to you and I know how hard it must feel to experience a loss like this but know Michelle will always love you and will guide you with her heart as more than what you will cherish in her scrapbook will always be in your heart! (wipes tears) God Bless You, sweet friend, I am always here if you need someone to talk to, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martie, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." Shakira [This message has been edited by Mistletoe Angel (08-18-2002 07:54 PM).] |

Martie You're misting me up here and I'm so thankful to be able to appreciate the tenderness of this poem. Those reminders are so sad but so dear to you having been touched by the grace of her beauty and the miracle of her spirit remains in these words of reflection from your heart. "these fragile memories a nesting material a trap for tears still mixed with dust to cement years one on another until they are just a minute a piece of time big in this place I clean trying to make compartments out of treasure in a cardboard box papers full of your name" I don't even know how you can look in there but I'm so glad you do because your insight into the preciousness of life is a gift you share with all of us......Love to you! a trap for tears still mixed with dust I knew this one was special before I ever opened it... through your loving words, we've come to share Michelle and love her too... this is painfully beautiful. |

Sadly beautiful Martie...but long after the paper has yellowed, long after the moths have laid holes in the cardboard, long after the ink has faded Michelle's memory will remain in your heart, in your words and in the thoughts of those of us who've had the opportunity to know, love, and grieve her, with you, through you poems. ((((HUGS)))) ~ Ruth |

Wonderful! I guess one becomes content with one’s poetry when one opens the book ten years hence and does NOT exclaim, “Did I really write this?” |
