birds flowed in breezes across the sky turning clouds of motion capturing insects and the attention of my little girl who smiled in delight at the birds display she turned to me to speak but I was drifting so she placed her hands on my cheeks looked me in the eyes and then she told me "when God speaks he doesn't use words" I did not have a clue as to what she meant but she just smiled and looked up to the sky that was when I saw the birds seeming to play then I said "Isabelle what did you mean?" Very seriously my three year old told me "God wants us to be happy, so he made this day" "and his birds are letting us know" "that he is listening to my prayers" Very simple, but also very complex my daughter and her belief but the message was for me and I just had to smile A real man |

"when God speaks he doesn't use words" You have touched on one my obsessions here! Expression through symbolism and archetype... and yes, it was having children that started me wondering, looking into the eyes of a baby, and knowing he had intelligent thought, and presuming no language as of yet...well...I'll have to stop, because I've typed that litany so many times here---but a beauty of a poem, and good for you, for hearing Divinity speak to you through your child! |

It was a very nice day, and luckily we have been able to give my daughter some roots but she blew me out of the water when she said that god spoke without words. A concept I would not think a 3 year old could even start to grasp. J |

Bob Greene wrote a delightful column once about watching his 2 year old son wake up---the baby opened his eyes and said, "wow." Mr. Greene wrote that he carries that thought with him even now, that we should wake each day with new found innocence and joy at just being here... Thanks for reminding me of that! (I'll have to go searching for that column, it was a wonderful piece, much along the same lines as this poem.) Thanks once again. |

The innocence of children cannot be copied. This is a wondeful write. Chris Life is not measured by breaths you take, but by moments that take your breath away. |

I admire this piece. It reminds me of my little girl and some of the similar things she has said to me. Thanks JB!! Made me smile too! Hey dog, did you see the size of that chicken!? |
