Drinking tea is easy sleep, laying out our buttered bread. Its taste is soft, hard to keep. Clockwise spoon, its light in steep; within brew its covered head. Drinking tea is easy sleep. Will not rattle, will not leap. Words unstirred, a sip instead. Its taste is soft, hard to keep. Sweet jar colors cold in keep warmed against a blade to spread. Drinking tea is easy sleep. Eyes are wet stones without weep, mouth a hunger left unfed. Its taste is soft, hard to keep. Soundless shapes within the deep and cloudy light from overhead. Drinking tea is easy sleep. Its taste is soft, hard to keep. |

(smiles) Oh Michael, I love this, sweet friend, villanelles are difficult to nwrite but you have made such a wonderful one here, I love drinking tea so much especially the Wild Berry Zinger and Vanilla Hazelnut from Celestial Seasonings! (big hugggsssss) This is delightful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Michael, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Bravo! Mikey, you did it. What an incredible villanelle! I wrote one--GOD'S LIGHT--in caps! hehe-- when I first joined PIP. Noah read it. But then, I think he has read almost every poem that has been posted! haha! I swear, it was like reading a recipe to put that villanelle together! They are so difficult to do, and I appreciate the skill that it required for you to create such an interesting and coherent one with this poem. ~ Keep on s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g yourself! ~ Linda |

Yup, you've done it again. Amazed me with your awesome poetry. I have soooooo much to learn. Enjoyed this thoroughly. Chris Life is not measured by breaths you take, but by moments that take your breath away. |

Thanks, everyone. I'm glad you enjoyed this rare attempt at form poetry. It was inspired by my roommate's mother passing away. We sat and drank tea, as we usually do in the mornings, when she got from Texas from the memorial -- and you could feel all the words and feelings that could not be expressed yet. And Lyra, this might make you less sleepy or cheer you up: I fed a squirrel today! He came out on the branch nearest me and was looking at me. I gave him a walnut from inside the house and he ate it on the branch, turned to the side and stooping. Later on that day, I gave him another one, and he took it, shell and all, in his mouth, jumped off the tree, across the stone wall, leapt to the house roofline next door, and disappeared to eat his gourmet dish. |
