~Walking The Slippery Edge~

Its been a year now
a harrowing year of angst and bloodshed
of torment, anger, sickness and tears
of slow struggles and long confrontations

my body has been tricked
attacked from within
when my back was turned, and eyes averted

my life walks the slippery edge
battling an army of rebel cells
bent on coup d'etat

but from somewhere deep inside
I have fired my own missiles
aided by medical battalions
with draconian weapons

I've been poisoned, burned and slashed
into my current state of survival
at times, some of my soldiers went A.W.O.L.
and troops were slain

my adversary is fierce...
each month, a new battle
another enemy attack
a fresh plan of counterattack

yet, here I am, one year later
beleagured and bitten hard
calloused of suffering
I've lost some battles and won some

the war still wages
yet, I hang onto the slippery edge of happenstance
never knowing what looms beyond the next horizon

holding tight...
while swinging on the hope of yet one more season
yearning, with uncertain optimism
to write this poem again
next year
~

This is a touching yet some places chilling account of your battle. I hold someone very very dear who fights the same battle. Or fought ... I haven't heard from her so I don't know if she is even still with us. Hold your friends dear ... let them know that you are alive and fighting ....live live live Madame ...live.

No one ever listened themselves into trouble.

Lyra---I hadn't known that you were fighting
       this battle.
"poisoned, burned and slashed" sounds like you've been struggling with cancer. Is this true? You may feel like you've lost a few battles, but you dear Lyra, dear Lyra are going to win the war. Besides, you have a host of angels watching over you at PIP!

I'm saving this one for my library, and a year from now, I will save the one that you write at that time!

Hello Lyra

Your words are an example to us all in the sense that we all have hidden strengths and we will do all we can to overcome the difficulties life presents us with.  I felt so much power and determination through your words and I for one just know that you'll get through this with sheer guts, determination and the huge amount of love that surrounds you.

Take care......Sue

Lyra, I too did not know of your battle. Your poetry seems to only show a success in life and skill. I am so happy to know that you are succeeding. This is a piece I'd like to share with others who have met this same battle, may I? Please e-mail me your answer.

Of course you already know we're all fighting with you through prayer and hope and wishes so I'm not going to say that. Instead I'll just give you my hand to hold... whenever, my shoulder if needed, and the warmth of my heart... forever.  As mentioned to others... just look high on the horizon my friend, that's me round the curve of the earth looking back... smiling for you.

Lyra, please pardon Dulcy and I's absense.  We have been working overtime to make a little bread.  (now if i could just afford some butter).  Yes, it has been the longest yard of year for you.  But you have learned much that will prepare you for future battles, if need be.  Never underestimate the value of prayer, and keep writing!  Your muse says in poetry, what your soul could not.

For gosh sakes, take care, ok?

Lyra, with all my power and might I pray for you. I know you will win this battle and eventually the war. You may be feeling like a worn down warrior, but you are one of the bravest and mightest I have ever known.

Do not despair -- pick up your sword and march forward and know that a whole army of Pip'sters is right behind.

And how I look forward to reading next year's poem.

Hugs and admiration to a wonderful lady...Marti

Sometimes you talk to me?...(And no one's "stranger" than me...right?)....I was always taught to be a fighter....and I've survived fairly well with those lessons..(My nose is shaped a little differently now, I have  many scars..some from licensed surgeons...some from street surgeons)..and you're obviously a real fighter too...it is a good feeling however to know you can take on such "villains" and keep fighting...you're a champion gal...you just keep your chin up, your thoughts focused, and your prayers and our prayers will be your army....I admire folks like you...I hope I have this same "gumption" and courage in the upcoming weeks!
