I am an ugly thing, creased covers and muddy pages full of stones, cane hobbled passages and lint from burial clothes. You cannot ask me to explain the sun -- the eye will remain long after the pyramids are memories of scent and relapsed shadow. I am an ugly thing here, a mound among hills, a scratch of ice on a weeping window. If you pull back the leaves, you will find a poem, just one heart -- repeat its breath. |

It is most amazing, how a poem is born... and how a poet knows what to call it... |

Wow !!! Chris Life is not measured by breaths you take, but by moments that take your breath away. |

Thank you all, for reading and enjoying. The inspire of this? I was reading some poetry by Czelaw Milosz a few minutes ago, and suddenly felt like I could write anything. Not that that's important to the reading of this poem; it's just important to me. Mike |

"If you pull the back the leaves, you will find a poem" Excellent! It takes a poet to know where to look. |

Oh what a lovely way your wrote this, Mr.Squirrel... I especially love the part about finding the poem after pulling back the leaves... I think I will go into the woods and look for some of your poetry... afterall... you are a squirrel and squirrels make their nests of leaves. ~ leafy rodent hugs Lyra |

SMILING... I was reading something last night, about how words drifting down a page is not a poem but a list? and the rebel in me thought? well...why isn't a LIST poetry...so? I pulled the drawer outta the kitchen---the JUNK drawer...and well, it wasn't art, but pieces of my life were in there...in a LIST...and hey, that's all poetry really is, pieces of our lives, shared. And you, m'lovely, SHARE yourself so generously...you are indeed a POEM. Love to you from for this. |

Lyra -- glad to see you back no worse for wear! I realized later on last night that the "pulling back the leaves" was opening a book. Meetcha in the woods for acorns! Sen -- I'm gonna go search out that poem, now. And everyone has an opinion on what's a poem and what isn't. They're wrong. ThisDiamond -- Thank you. I can't even pretend my words are anywhere near Milosz's, but at least we're both Polish. brian -- I will, I will. I know I will. Mikey |
