He stood waiting as he had times before, By the bus stop’s empty bench, In case there’s someone else might need it more, And slowly climbed into the bus’s door As it stopped before the bench, He moved deliberate as youngsters swore, Pushing passed him giving him an angry scowl Taking the handicapped bench, He’d rather sit toward the back anyhow. The traffic Running the town stop and go, Wait red light Move green light, From his seat it was a show, Girls walking, Boys gawking, Late summer fashions in view, Buyers pour Out the stores Lovers walking two by two, Through traffic, Hand in hand they’re walking slow. Disembarking skyscrapers touch the sky, Sights and sounds surrounding him, But remains withdrawn from the passerby In his disheveled and rumpled old clothes, Others pass far around him, Don’t notice who he is or where he goes. By the dock he takes out some old stale rye, The birds gather around him, Casually tossing crumbs as time goes by. Gloom |

You know, it's funny but the few times I have been on the subway or the lightrail,(no busses near me) I have felt this way, as the rumpled man. You are ignored, people including myself draw their possessions close to their bodies, side glance at each other and when you get off not a word has been exchanged.. the only thing I need to do is take some stale bread with me for the birds next time. *s M [This message has been edited by nakdthoughts (09-17-2002 10:11 AM).] |

I enjoyed this write Gloom! Well done. Chris Life is not measured by breaths you take, but by moments that take your breath away. |
