Soft drizzle moistened the ground, Through the night, To muffle the city sound As he slept deep in his shack, Before light, Before trains rolled the track, A voice called him with his name, Softly spoke, Ghostly words drifting in rain, He answered to just the air, When he woke, Because there was no one there. He was a sweeper and dishwashing man, And at times not so handy handyman, He was touched ever so slight in the head Or at least that’s what everybody said. He was reliable to work three days, On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday always Would be there rumpled at the diner’s door. Washing the dishes and sweeping the floor, He worked steadily with a strong soft hand He was the sweeper and dishwashing man. After working all the day, He went back Shuffle stepping all the way For he’s not young anymore, To his shack Behind the furniture store. Gently he took off his shoes, Slightly wet, Then slowly laid back to snooze In his hammock of a sheet Also wet Like the worn socks on his feet. The rain ended sometime during the day Yet the dark clouds had yet to drift away The moon was hidden and stars did not light, It would be another very dark night. Closing his eyes blew a kiss to the air, As if someone leaning over was there. No ghostly shimmer moved about the space, He fell asleep with a smile on his face. He was touched ever so slight in the head Or at least that’s what everybody said. Gloom |

(big hugggssssss) Oh Aszard, this is so deeply touching, sweet friend, your words always depict the life in the city so very well as there are thousands of stories to share! (sigh) My heart goes out to the many who work so hard yet feel lonely and whenever they do smile it brings a tear to my eye knowing how special it must feel! God Bless You, sweet friend, this is wonderful, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Aszard, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you!
