Listening to every heart

0 posted 2002-08-16 08:55 PM

Dear Poet Friends...I was honored to give a eulogy for a beloved Aunt who, at age 90, passed away last Sunday.  She was ready to go to her Lord, had lived a very full and happy life, and in some way, the family wanted a small poem to encompass her beliefs.  Her life was in her love of God, family and friends, and in the artistry that came through in her handiwork.  This, then, was the small poem that emerged.

                                                   Ruby’s Prayer

                                                   Dear Lord,

                                                   Like your work,
                                                   My circles of love
                                                   Are never done

                                                   I’ve stitched my
                                                   Days in time,
                                                   One by one

                                                   I’ve linked my hopes,
                                                   Prayers and dreams
                                                   By Your love’s light

                                                   You’ve seen me through
                                                   The good and bad,
                                                   Through my days and nights

                                                   My circle has now
                                                   Run complete
                                                   Into Your hands
                                                   I now retreat

                                                   But I leave behind
                                                   My circles of love
                                                   Just as you encircle
                                                   The world from above,

                                                   Surround the hearts
Of my loved ones all dear
That their lives are but links
To your Son, who is near

                                                   Let their hands link
                                                   In a circle like this

                                                   As in Your name,
                                                   All of our lives exist.

                                                   Amen.

Lovely, really and truly, just absolutely lovely..  your auntie must have been a very special person.  I'm sure she's looking at YOUR handiwork and being very proud, too.

Blessings and peace,

Sheila

Karilea ~~ This was so touching a tribute and the artwork is beautiful. I hope your aunt, may she rest in peace, was able to share and enjoy your poem creations.

We have shed years like a molting chameleon
skins we have wore
some with pride
some with weathered leather
When the Circle is finally broken
the spirit is commended to repair it
in heaven's workshops

Karilea, I know your Aunt loved you and your poetry very very much. She was smiling and very proud of you as you read this poem you penned for her as well.  How very blessed she was to have had you as a niece.  She lived a very long full life and therefore was ready when God called her home.
Beautifully done sweet poetess.
Love the pic of the handiwork.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Karilea, this is sooooooo beautiful, I know with all my heart Ruby will always love you and guide you with her love as she is so blessed to have you, as a niece and now she is safe with Him and will always be making halos with her hands and placing them over you as you continue to weave these circles of love! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, my heart goes out to you, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karilea, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

A prayer stitched up in words of the soul. Eloquent and unexplainable ... a calm reflection and remission of death's inevitability, and the love she left behind.

The fullness of your heart for this beloved aunt truly shows.  This is a lovely piece.  I know your family felt so also.  Ken
