(Though I never got to grow up during the era Elvis was king, I consider myself a true fan of him and admire his music and cinema and all he gave youth in America and the world throughout the good ole' times! Long live the King, Yay! )

“ ‘Til we meet you again, may God bless you. Adios.”
-Said in 1977 at the end of a concert during his last tour.
- Elvis Presley

Long Live The King
By: Noah Eaton
8/16/02

Standing on Beale Street
Wailing with the Graceland Dixies
Wearing his hair long
Absorbing the rock and black blues
A Big Hunk O' Love is singing on like a hound dog
Long live the King
Strutting along in his white two-piece suit
Standing in the spotlight singing "If I Can Dream"
More than just a little swinging guitar man

You wore the motorcycle spirit of James Dean and Marlon Brando
Collected a Convair 880, flew to become the king of rock n' roll
Bought yourself a guitar instead of a bicycle back in your hometown Tupelo
Learned how to play, took your 1939 Plymouth to Graceland to sing out your soul

Rock steady
Roll gently
Whole lotta shakin' goin' on
So get ready

Standing on Beale Street
Wailing with the Graceland Dixies
Wearing his hair long
Absorbing the rock and black blues
A Big Hunk O' Love is singing on like a hound dog
Long live the King
Strutting along in his white two-piece suit
Standing in the spotlight singing "If I Can Dream"
More than just a little swinging guitar man
Long Live The King

You brought along the sun to Sun Studios
Rode the Louisiana Hayride and signed on with the Colonel
Went to RCA, got your pesto down in vinyl
Taking it from Heartbreak Hotel to the Milton Berle show

Johnny B. Good,
Slip on your blue suede shoes
Welcome to his world
Just don't be crushed by his steamroller blues

Standing on Beale Street
Wailing with the Graceland Dixies
Wearing his hair long
Absorbing the rock and black blues
A Big Hunk O' Love is singing on like a hound dog
Long live the King
Strutting along in his white two-piece suit
Standing in the spotlight singing "If I Can Dream"
More than just a little swinging guitar man
Long Live The King

I remember you singing on the Steve Allen show
Singing tongue-and-cheek with that Basset hound
I remember the controversy you sparked with Ed Sullivan
And he was there to keep you from being thrown in the pound
I recall Jailhouse Rock and Blue Hawaii
King Creole, your G.I haircut, girls girls, girls and gospel blends
You certainly did more than just live a little, love a little
Rock on, Elvis is here to stay as king so move over Eminem

Standing on Beale Street
Wailing with the Graceland Dixies
Wearing his hair long
Absorbing the rock and black blues
A Big Hunk O' Love is singing on like a hound dog
Long live the King
Strutting along in his white two-piece suit
Standing in the spotlight singing "If I Can Dream"
More than just a little swinging guitar man
Long Live The King

Standing on Beale Street
Holding a candle to my hand
Still hearing the dixies
And his rock and backyard blues
This Big Hunk O'Love still sings on in Graceland
Thank you, thank you very much!

"Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..."

I enjoyed Elvis and his movies, but I'm so glad you used a little "k" in the word king.

For a long time, I've wished people would just let him rest in peace and I wish there weren't people raking in millions at keeping him alive. If they were giving it all to charity, that would be a bit different, but they're not, to my knowledge.

From your poetry, I believe you are a believer in the real King and I know it is good to appreciate the talent God bestows on His children. He gives us the chance to use our talent for Him or agin Him. One thing that's sad, Elvis has no say now in how his talent is used, anymore.

Your poem is well done, I've no doubt, and it's great you express yourself so well. This is not a statement against your admiration of a very talented man. It's just my statement on behalf of a person's memory and legacy.

I started a poem about my feelings regarding all the 'publicity' currently going on that rakes in the dough for a few. So far, I'm not brave enough to post it. See what a great person you are...you are brave enough to state your convictions.

Yep, now I've taken time to come back and read your poem,  Noah, and you know more about Elvis, in a lot of ways than I do, and I grew up during the beginning and the height of his career, which was most of it, huh.

Good job! I could almost hear the music that surely goes along with this piece you created.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Thanks for this Noah, I loved Elvis and I still remember where I was the moment I heard he died.
A sad waste, to go so young.
You have a great way with these tributes.  I remember your Jams Dean poem, too. You should have had some time in the 50's and 60's!!

'... This Big Hunk O'Love still sings on in Graceland
Thank you, thank you very much! ...'

Big Hunk of Burnin' Love....

Gosh, I don't know where the last 25 years have gone. How could Elvis be dead this many years -- I'm sure it was just yesterday that he died.

You did a great writing job and I'm sorry you didn't grow up in this era. Seems they were the simplier times...but maybe not!

Miss you ...  Hugs, Marti

Noah - what a great tribune to Elvis. I sang a few of his songs back in the days when I played with my band. I still love his music, it will never grow old...

Noah, I'm so glad that someone took the time to do the deed here today, and wouldn't you know it, you weren't even born when the Dude left us....

Someone should put THIS to music...  your research was great, too.

Actually, I've heard a lot about Elvis form TV shows and the like.
Ur song of tribute to the king is very lyrical anf replete in it's rythym.

The Lord is our King,  but Elvis is certainly
our king of Rock and Roll....and yes,  I
agree with VAS,  too bad they don't take
all the monies gained from keeping Elvis
alive....and putting them to a good use
where he would be remembered for more than
just the music and feel that he has given
us all...

Thanx Noah...

Noah,
That was before my time. His movie about the worlds fair filmed in Washington state had a scene that went right by where I lived. Oh that's right, he was before my time. My mistake!

Though Elvis was way before my time, I have seen him on TV and my good friend Balladeer was friends with his grandfather and has told me all about him.....When Jerry Lee Lewis sang "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' on" Balladeer was dating his own second cousin the same as Jerry Lee was dating his own first cousin-soon to be wife. This is an extraordinary work Noah...
