We got to know each other by fortune my father her mother and fate they were older lovers wantin marriage we were thrown together that way and I got to know her gentle beauty cause I got to see her everyday and though she was my stepsister I knew I'd never be the same So I told her what I was thinkin and she stared at me deep and dark her wide eyes circled by her golden hair gave a look that thrilled my heart chorus: "Do you think that I'm crazy Sherry Do you think that I'm outa line Cause I fell in love with you Sherry and nothin's gonna change my mind" Well she walked away from me slowly but she looked back from the stairway sent me a quick grin and crossed her arms I thought my beatin heart would break And I froze as she kept lookin at me The air became solemn as a wake I said "I know we ain't kin and this ain't a sin" Lord she never had a thing to say. chorus: "Do you think that I'm crazy Sherry Do you think that I'm outa line Cause I fell in love with you Sherry and nothin's gonna change my mind" well we finally got round to talkin she took my hand and told me she knew she had studied my eyes when she passed close by they'd given her more than a clue She'd shared a fire with a college mate and she got scorched by the flame but he'd run off and left her weak and she needed time to kill the pain chorus: "Do you think that I'm crazy Sherry Do you think that I'm outa line Cause I fell in love with you Sherry and nothin's gonna change my mind" The role of poetry is to utter the un-utterable; to open up spaces of consciousness and resistance; to language oppressions; to re-language historie [This message has been edited by ethome (09-08-2002 06:58 AM).] |

Did Sherry's heart ever get mended? And if it did, did you mend it? All I know is that---if someone wrote a song like this for me, my heart would be on the mend faster than you could say--"great"---and that is exactly what I think of this piece of writing! Linda |
