By your Grave By the grave of sweet remembrance I have placed a floral spray Knelt in honor of your life As I began to softly pray May your spirit be contented Having recognized its worth More than you believed its value For the days you spent on earth Can you see the richness of your life Reflected in the smile Of a little girl you never met Your daughter’s lovely child Do you know that we have seven now You’d only met the five Who all recall there Grandfather When he was still alive Do you know the truth of what has passed The time that you’ve been gone Did you know I’ve learned forgiveness For things I dwelled upon Can you see my teardrops falling Do you see the flowers I leave Or are you within a special place That man cannot conceive For mistakes that always haunted you For every sorrow dealt Are you now aware through all the pain The love I always felt I will leave the flowers by your side Though you are nowhere near It’s the only gift that I can give While I am standing here I walked away not knowing If you heard a word I said For the voices of the living Are not spoken to the dead But somehow I felt you near me And I looked back toward your tomb Every rosebud that I left there Was a full and perfect bloom Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (09-01-2002 09:40 PM).] |

Oh, Nan, you have no idea how much this means to me, to see Tony's picture there before me, so unexpected. I can hardly type for all the tears. Dispite everything, nobody knows how much I loved him and after all this investigation I know now he had nothing to do with it. THe whole thing has been so hurtful to all of us Thank you Noah,TheLoner, my cafe, and Midnightsun for you kind responses to this poem Can't wait for you and Titia to come Love Liz |

Oh Liz... my tears fall with yours. I know that he heard you! My first husband communicates with me all of the time and whenever I mention that I haven't heard from him in ages... he sends me a new sign that he still watches over me. If you listen, you will hear him or see him there... out of your sight...but still there for you. Your poem touched me very deeply and also reminded me to go and visit the cemetary. ~ hugs and tears Lyra |

Liz The others have already told you how touching this poem is...and it touched me also...the last line especially. When Michelle died, her second grad classroom gave me a flowering peach tree. I planted it immediately and then was gone for a week...away from home to try to heal. When I returned the tree was in full bloom. I think that hearts that love, communicate for eternity. |

My dear Liz. He does hear the voice of the living. My dear this has touched my heart. I came on in search of your email as the old one isn't working anymore. This has touched me also because my younger brother has just passed away the 29th. I know parts of this just don't fit, but the sentiment sure touched my heart. God's love to you always Liz! GREAT BIG HUGS <*\\\>< |

Liz - I spent Tuesday with Nan and Titia and they raved and raved about you and your poetry. I have a very dear friend who is dying and this poem means more to me than I can put into words. It is beautiful and I am sorry you lost your Tony. Hugs, Marti Every now and then take a good look at something not made |

Love is the one emotion that will conquer all the others, and you dear friend have so much to share, and give. This went straight to my heart Liz as I know you too well, and know how forgiving you are. He knows honey, he knows, and the wonderful life you had together can never be taken away from you, ever. Tony lives on in those beautiful children of yours (they all even look like him), and I also know he will live in your heart forever, just as I am sure you are living in his. There is more wisdom in these four lines than I have ever read Liz... I walked away not knowing If you heard a word I said For the voices of the living Are not spoken to the dead Pick up the phone |

This has special, grave meaning to me, Dear Lady Santos... very special, very touching, meaning... more for you, I know, as the Lady within you has found forgiveness... and I am looking, just now, for my own... I won't let you down, just as you have never let me down... warm hugs, Sun |

Elizabeth, Thank you so much for sharing this work. It means so much to me. I am sorry for your loss. I cannot begin to understand that kind of loss, but you do it with such grace and dignity. Your strength is to be admired as is your understanding and devotion. Bless you and may you continue in peace. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

Each and every response to this poem has been very heartwarming to me. Sometimes death abruptly cuts off communication and you feel so helpless after you realize that certain things should have been said. I;m sure many have experienced this situation. Thank you for your undestanding Liz |
