Spirit Cloud

What is rain     mother
asked the sparrow’s child
long after the time of the last flood

I will show you said earth

gather me a spirit cloud
within my water jar
be careful not to spill for the well is dry

let it fill from the meaning of drink
until it is puffed and important

let it fly from your hand like balloons
in every color to amuse the sky

then as it rest over the tops of trees long gone
it will pierce your neglect with an arrow of fire

when the dry lake and river run gold
its burst will be felt

and you will know the meaning
of rain

with feathers, peace pipe,  tomahawks,

Wow!
definitely like the legends
told around the fire
before or after
the dance.

Enjoyed!
Coyote would be proud!

The land is so thirsty here...we water and deplete the supply again and again...who will fill the lakes and streams?  The name Spirit Cloud came to me out of those thougths and thus, the poem.  Thank you so very much for reading and for your wonderful replies..and Janet Marie..that picture is perfect!

These words are just so perfect for the drought conditions, Martie...
A beautiful and meaningful write.

Martie this piece is not just outstanding because it is wonderful  poetry, but also because you show so much caring and wisdom in your words and in this you reach others and touch their hearts.  Thank you for such lovely words to treasure.

without a net, or heavy hand
snatched from the sky
the Grey Cloud descends
Exchanged with happier hue
White Cloud shawls the sky
a firmament
where no rain, no storms,
no evil may rain
