A train
climbing a gruesome grade.
Falling snow blanketing the rails like
cotton on a comb.
Windswept leaves flying endlessly in a stiffness
of breeze that would freeze a flea on a hound’s back.
Winter settles in for a long nap.

Coffee percolating over a wooden stove
of vintage steel blackened by countless
logs cut to fit the tight confines
in a potbelly on steel wheels and thin rails.

As a whistle shrills,  a wolf raises it’s head  as if to
say ho-humm as it curls up, nose tucked under
A bushy tail.   How many times before has
The howl answered the whistle’s call?
                  ***
In smoky gray of moon dust knoll
the Alpha curls to wait fates toll.
Above the blood red eyes in peer
In chill of man crept ever near

As though to moan his meager fate
the gray stands tall and will not wait.
Above the frosted evening glen,
in chill his voice to howl again

The stealth of night will cloak his track
The sovereign male in arch stands back
Above the foggy rolling hills
In voice of sorrow brings these chills
                  ***

Beyond the grade…..
into the routine bustle of life
a rusted train rolls lazily into a siding,
in the distance a lone wolf
howls at a silver ghost under a
blanket of twinkling stars.
In a frozen wilderness where time
stands as still as snow laden pines
bowing beneath a winter’s moon.

Kathy gave me the beautiful stanzas of the wolf
to blend in....Very beautiful words....

YAY!!! Oh my gosh, you always write such gorgeous poems together, sweet friends, I love how you use the train as a metaphor to a loves destiny, a loves voice sounding through the horizons on its way to the depot! (big group hug) This is excellent, sweet friends, we all love you both so much! You have such beautiful hearts, sweet Barry and Kathleen, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

As I read again this blend, I realize how inspired a single thought becomes when shared. Very much enjoyed working this Barry.
Great images in the train and the trek up the mountain. I love the wolf, in his regal image. Will work more with this theme.
Very Best Regards, ThisDiamond

Thank you everyone for your kindness.

Kathy,  it is always an honor to write with
you.  You have a most creative mind,  a
vocabulary that I am totally envious of and
if not for your sharing of your awesome
poetry and images,  this would not be what
it has become....

Thank you from a humble poet and friend.
