Passchendale with tree bursts. Silence in the swirling mist beneath the dark towers of hell the biting cold of dragons teeth strangling warmth from every breath before the dim light fades away then a mighty hellish roar in the darkest shadows does awake the death factory with it’s dirty work then thunder beats upon the ground and a murderous hail falls to earth to lighten up the darkest holes with fiery rain from barking beast that reaps and slaughters mortal man before the wall of dragons teeth. I've just been reading a book about the Hürtgen Forest and the Siegfried Line in the European Campaign of World War 2. The title was found in Charles Whiting's "West Wall" and the name is attributed to the troops who fought in the Hürtgen Forest, who compared it with the World War 1 battle at Passchendale. Hopefully this goes a little way into revealing the terror that the Allied troops had to endure. Andrew "If you are afraid of wolves, stay out of the woods" |

I think you did rather well at capturing the intensity of the moment and the circumstances that they endured...Nice Job! |
