Artistry of the Mind

Every human, every creature,
Every living thing we see …
Paints a most intriguing picture,
Through the mind's sheer artistry.

Have you looked beyond the canvas,
Past the brush strokes layered there?
Have you seen beyond the image?
Could it be … you're unaware?

Have you gazed beyond the surface,
'Tward the depths of sweet explore?
Have you wondered at the vision …
Knew that there was something more?

Has your feathered brush drawn something
You have yet to understand?
If you took a moment longer,
Could you let your mind expand?

Let no labels blind your vision,
Open up your eyes anew ….
Peer beyond the artist's palette,
Far outside the common view.

Open up your mind to beauty
You have never seen before,
Look beyond the misconceptions …
Deep into the inner core.

Hidden there beneath the shadows,
In the guise of simple form,
Rests a realm of pure ambrosia,
If you let your sight conform.

Fear not that your eyes deceive you,
Welcome their diversity …
There's a world beyond the canvas,
"If" you truly wish to see.

/Kit McCallum

Your painting with words and saying so much.  It’s so hard to look passed the canvas as you call it, I know it is for me, especially when it’s full of pretty colors.  You want people to do something very very hard, but if they did, I bet it would be worth it.

Yes, Kit, indeed, you should take
time out when you can, just to pen
perfection like this...
as marvelous as you are,
we need a little more

Thank you!

I wasnt born gifted of the hands ...
I can not paint, sculpt or draw.
Not even a simple stick figure ...
comes from this "southpaw"

But should I want pure beauty...
a canvas colored in rainbow's hue
Should I wish for lovely unending ...
I need only request a self portrait of you.

As I read this cadence kissed gem of pen and its artist theme...I was thinking Sy is gonna love this one Then I could picture you standing at your easel doing what you love most. I stopped in for lunch and its and I find your name ... so good to see that shining smile of yours here today Kit-gator-girlie!!

Kit,
I don't know how this got by me but I caught it now. You touched a tender spot in me.
It is a question I've asked all my life and still do. Life is full of stages and I sort of understand most but the one that gets to me are those that can and don't. Your poem is excellent and you have a mind like a steel trap. You are one of a kind and always will be.

Writing at it's absolute best! You are a gifted writer. Gosh, it's such a joy to read what you write. I have read this over and over and see more each time I read it. Thank you.

I just love these lines:  '...Fear not that your eyes deceive you,
Welcome their diversity …
There's a world beyond the canvas,
"If" you truly wish to see...'

Oh, how we so desperately need to look and see. We are missing so much in life.

Hugs, Marti

Tonight, I've read many strong and moving poems, and this is among the best of them.  Kit, you always brings beauty and universal truths to life with such grace and perfection.  And surely this is worthy of applause.  You are a talented, compassionate poet and that's something to be very proud of!

This should hang on the wall of everyone's home as a reminder, and it would be an honour to save this in my library

Take care,
Melissa~

Kit not only are the words beautiful, but the meaning that they hold are intensley beautiful.  Another jewel to be tucked into the box of treasures.  A keeper for sure.  Loved this.

Enjoy life, this is NOT a dress rehearsal.

Dear Kit, enjoyed the read, you keep your talents for too long locked away from our view, lovely expression and thought.

Your words they painted to my mind
A treasure that you helped to find
A canvas bare and virgin white
With beauties touch to take my sight

Sincerely
Rick

That is alot of questions you ask us and none of them are easy.  I used to feel as if I were stuck "between" the paint and the canvas......then all I need was a mirror to see the images.   Wonderful writing my friend and you already know that your cadence and flow have always been favorites of mine(thus the challenges) but I will say once again..THEY STILL ARE.

Ah, sweet Kit! Not only are the mechanics flawless, as are all with the signature Kit McCallum, but you have woven a wonderful touch of philosophical wisdom within these lines. How great it would be if all lived by these suggestions....

Perfection, dear Kit

Bsquirrel:  I wish I had time to write more often Mike … I try though, I do try. Thanks for enjoying, and for your encouragement.

Enchantress:  Thank you Nancy … I'm trying very hard to make room for "fun" again. The last year has been a work-whirlwind, but it felt like "old times" the last few days as I've played in Open more in the last 3 days than I have in the last 3 months, lol. What a great feeling.

Rick:  What a wonderful poetic response Rick … that, in itself is a treasure ... thank "you"!

Rex Allen McCoy:  I'm glad I can bring a smile Rex … it's always wonderful to see you, and such a treat to read you the other day as well. Wonderful writing!

Mark Bohannan:  Being "stuck between the paint and the canvas" … loved that visual Mark, as I understand it all too well. It's so wonderful to see you here again … I know I've said that before … but … I just wanted to say it again. Hugs to you …

cjohnson/poet2079:  Thanks so much for the kind comment cjohnson, and welcome again to Passions … I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay!
