There's a buckin' barrel on rotted ropes
Still hanging in the yard...
And every time I look at it-
I have to swallow hard...

His pictures hanging on the walls-
Still bring me lot's of pain...
They're all we have to keep us sane-
Ever since we lost our Blaine.

He grew up with a happy grin-
And longing to be grown.
So he could follow rodeo,
And make it on his own.

Five foot, eight- lean as a whip...
An ego ten feet tall.
Broad of shoulder, lean of hip,
He longed to ride them all.

They say he could have been the best-
But now we'll never know...
A fighting brahma took his life,
At a small, west Texas show.

Twenty-one and crazy-
Just starting in this life...
He left a year old marriage,
And a three month pregnant wife...

But sometime of an evening,
I can almost hear his voice-
Saying, Daddy, don't you cry for me-
You know it was my choice.

He did what he wanted,
and you allowed him his dreams...
but you did cause a tear
in this eye...

A wonderful tribute! I'm sorry for your loss.
This poem gave me goose bumps.

You are a wonderful person John...and throughout the years, I've read your heartache...

I could not imagine the loss of a child, as I have an 11 month old daughter now...I hope you have someone to lean on...cuz Texas is kinda far from Cali..and my hubby might get jealous... (that BETTER have roused a grin)

hugs you...

(big hugggssssss) Though I haven't been a parent yet, I know how hard it must be to lose a child and my heart goes out to you with deepest sympathies! (sad sigh) My thoughts are with you, sweet friend, God Bless You and know he will always guide you with his love and never forget you, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet John, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

We weren't meant to outlive our sons and daughters as I know well... but it's ok for Dads to cry when we have the worst reason.

A masterful write from the western bard...
