The Best Is Yet To Come

in the heat of the day
you took me to the cool
a place twenty degrees different
saving me a seat in the soft
settling in I pressed against reality
in a grove of pines, auditorium of smell
just as my pores engulfed surrounding feelings
the main show began its number
three black birds in a comedy routine
playing off each others words and jokes
dancing to summers music in the breeze
then without notice day dropped its heavy curtain
I sat on the edge of my seat wanting more
I realized then it was intermission
the best was yet to come
so quietly I waited in suspense
and as slowly as it went, again it started
the final act of this amazing day
the moon gently lifted the velvet curtain
and a thousand twinkling stars
lit the edges of pointed pine needles
a show so breathtaking it made my mind pause
the sensation sent my heart in reel
I sat numb with all I had taken in
then left there feeling thick and clean
knowing happiness is the aroma of the soul

"The heart is the toughest part of the body, tenderness is in the hands." Carolyn Forche'

Isn't it just? A perfect description, and a beautiful poem.

I would have to agree!
