Calls late at night
Full of fright
Long discussions
Led to eruptions
Wanted to help
Didn’t know what to do
Too many faces
Too many drinks
Love all around
But not inside
Tried to leave
Didn’t quite make it
Institutional commitment
Yearning to leave
Hello the phone was answered
She finished it this time
No more late calls
No more fright
Just deep sadness
And loss of a light
Many years ago my sister could no longer take the pain of life and took her life...this poem remembers her and the pain

Oh Paul...this is terribly sad.
When someone thinks this is the only way out...
Especially when help is so close...
I am so very sorry for your loss.

Paul

I am so sorry for the loss of your sister in this way.  I know how much you must have wanted to help...but sometimes the hole has been dug too deep...and even love can't get through.  The facts here in this poem, in a way seemed detached..but gave the poem the power...for what lay between the lines was obviously tears.  Heart hugs to you.

Martie - thanks for your kind words offering wisdom and understanding - I don't think I ever felt like I could put it all together when it was happening so I guess this poem truly expresses that - appreciate your thoughtful words - Paul

I cannot think of a greater loss, than the life of a loved one. How brave your heart, and how well remembered the light for your sister. ThisDiamond

Oh Paul I am so, so sorry. It must have been just awful for you. She must have been a very tormented woman and now, please God, hopefully she has finally found her peace. But it doesn't make it any easier for you and your loved ones.

May you receive your strength through your poems and knowing we all care.  Hugs, Marti
