Listening to every heart

                                               Nipomo & Nesbitt Extracts

Even in the 50’s, there was the need,
                                     oh the need,
                                               to run from the city,
slick and sleek, lights and brights,
                                                     run from the city
                                     to the country nights

my dad he heard it in his bones
find the family a better home
here the ground is rich and dark
and life can be like a park

so to the north he took us far
then, soon, he stopped the car
said,                   this is home, make the best
and for that year, stands memory’s test

for this is where the plum tree stood
and chickens scratched the earth’s great good
we grew the soil into verdant green
and greeted the morning fog serene
till the sun broke through the mist
we played, the air felt laughter’s kiss

children in great grainy gunny sacks
celebrating Indian’s dance in the back
where the clothes hung to solar dry
while the summer sun was nigh
                                    chasing shadows, come what may
                                    stamping dust into the fray
and soon the Indians with dusty cheeks
sought a refuge, a drink to seek

                                    even then, Mom was clever
with a drink, the dry to sever
she kept us content with the real
of a drink from oranges peeled
to that added a fizzy feel
                                    Nesbitt memories are surreal
for nothing comes close to this, again
of dust, and dance, and remember when…

Oh, what wonderful childhood memories you've stirred up for me today!
Nesbitt's orange!  Ohmygosh!  I can almost taste it!
Wonderful write of 'remember when'...
and I love the pictures!
I could sit here all day now just remembering.....

(big hugggssssss) Oh Karilea, I wish I could have lived then to try that soda, a lot of days I spend my time writing poems in the Avanza supermarket because I love the fiesta atmosphere there and I always buy tose bottled sodas but unfortunately I could never find that one! (sigh) Such nostalgia and memories fill your words, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karilea, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

and chickens scratched the earth’s great good
we grew the soil into verdant green
and greeted the morning fog serene

I love walking through your mind like this. . . there's always something neat to see. . .

Add me to the list of people who actually drank Nesbitt Orange and displayed the orange upper lip and tongue.  What a treat that was.

This one's a keeper, Karilea.  Don't forget to publish this one.
