And The Billy Boils

A whisper told, was passed along to me
That you sought the perfect cuppa tea
No doubt to find the best a long way you’ll go
But here in Oz we’ve the best to show

Across the world it’s known to be true
Not a special blend, simply the way of brew
Throughout history it has made the grade
When shared with mates in coolabah shade

Over red hot coals the Billy will boil
To brew the mix that relieves all toil
From the flame to the cartwheel spin
Ever careful not to scorch the skin

Around three times, thence back three more
She’d almost be ready for the pour
Strength and character, coloured jet black
And that’s the way we like it here in the outback

Maybe all one can do is hope to end up with the right regrets.  ~Arthur Miller

I am not much of one for tea but you sure made this one sound like it would be worth the trip.  Always nice to see someone inspired by another's write and you show the inspiration wonderfully as well as give us some insight to your country's offerings.  Well done .... got an extra cup to pass to this cowboy?

I always wondered about the words to that song...loved it, although I had no idea what Billy boil meant...now I do, thanks to you.  I loved this colorful poem!

Hi EagleOne!

I'm up for coffee or tea anytime.  Your Billy Boil sounds like my wake up cup.  Then I switch to tea.

Eagle you soar with your morning cuppa, it inspired this which just wrecks your mood.

In the dawn of the morning
by the coolibah tree
the billy is boiling
I'm making some tea

I've added the gum leaves
to flavour it strong
shielded from dawn's breeze
and coloured with song

the mist rises slowly
not yet kept by day
and smokey aromas
fill  sense as I stay

I whistle softly
through haze you appear
it's time for the tea
so sit you down here

The bellbirds are calling
in chime to the day
and half promised tasks
are all kept at bay

in wisp of the morning
where tales are told
we sit close together
to seal out the cold

in fine tradition
so genteel and warm
we drink strong black tea
steeped in morn's charm

gentle companionship
to warm up in force
to sit by the coolibah
and drink with my horse.

What a cuppa you inspired in me. Thanks
Keth

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

Eddie, well start that fire, I'd love a cup of tea about now. Nice to see you writing, I enjoyed this as usual.
