Thanks Mr.Squirrel, I hope you find that piece of shade... My car is black on the outside and it has tan leather seats. Sometimes it gets so hot that I could cook acorns in there....in fact if it sits long enough, I could bake a whole acorn pizza. I wonder what people did, before cars were air conditioned... I guess we are very spoiled, because not only do we have cars to get us places quickly....but they also have air conditioning and music and cup holders etc. Almost all the comforts of home. We shouldn't complain because afterall, there was a time when people had to go everywhere on horseback and covered wagons...and there were no highways then...and no rest stops...except the trees. ~ traveling rodent hugs Lyra |

Very Cute. If only we had remote control air conditioning so we could cool off our cars about 15 minutes before we get into them on these dog days of Summer. How I long for the coolness of Fall or Winter |

Thanks so much, Paul... Now that is a wonderful idea. Too wonderful to waste. Why don't you work on inventing one of those devices. They have remote control for everything else, why not air conditioning. ~ appreciative chipmunk hugs Lyra |

madam C, I've been trying to write about this nasty heat for days now and haven't been successful. Now I can stop trying. You've said it all with your perfect words Thank you BS. I never aimed at reality; I aimed at truth. --Orson Welles |

Well now, Mr.Squirrel...you need some of those clip on fans that run on batteries...not your car battery, although I think you could probably get one of those too. But I've seen those little ones which work on double A or triple A batteries and they work quite well. Try to stay cool this summer anyway... ~ cool rodent hugs Lyra |

Thanks Brian... This has been such an unusual summer, hasn't it? I don't know where you live, but in Michigan...it took forever to be summer. It was so cold all through June and then when it got hot, it stayed in the nineties with no letup and not much rain either. ~ stay cool hugs Lyra |

Lyra I love the way you took this...driving, to just the right place. Metaphorically, we all need to find that shade on the blacktop. Life is sometimes just too hot. Come on over...we'll have a fresh lemonade! |

You got the extraordinary hot days up there too? We're in a drought...but so is at least 1/3 of the nation...of course the other 2/3rd of the nation is under water, go figure... sunny hugs... [This message has been edited by Sunshine (07-19-2002 02:16 PM).] |

My dear I can certainly relate to this. What a hot, hot summer we are having here in New England. Your cousins won't even come out from under the maple to scoot around and play. I will read this to them and let them know you are sweltering also. Keep looking for that shade...LOL! (smiles) Oh my gosh, I love this, sweet friend, it has been so terribly dry and sultry here in Denver, I could sure use that place in the shade right about now! (kiss on cheek) I hope you have a special place where you can relax and sip lemonade and watch the birds and chipmunks, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Thanks for the invite, Martie... I'm packing my bags now, and I will soon be on my way...so please have that lemonade ready. You know that old saying..."If life gives you lemons, make lemonade"? Well I've made plenty of lemonade during the past few years, so if you want to wait until I get there, that would be okay because lemonade appears to be one of my specialties. ~ hugs and lemonade Lyra |

Thanks for your reply, Juanita... I know that some people put towels over the seats and that seems to help, but I always forget to put them in the car. I have a 3 way sunroof that I can just tip up so that the car gets air, but no one can break into it...and I usually leave the sunroof just a bit tipped up and sometimes that helps...but of course if I do find that nice shady spot under a tree, and I leave the sunroof open that way...I always end up with debris from the tree in the car... I guess I can't win. ~ big hugs and cool shade Lyra |

Thanks Karilea...I think if given the choice, I would choose the drought over the floods. We don't officially have a drought here in Michigan and we have had some rain but not enough....and we do get some really hot weather here, but it usually only lasts a couple of weeks. Our summers are usually very beautiful. We just came back from my stepdaughter's wedding and the ceremony was in the park at 5 PM. As you know, in western Michigan at this time of year...that is the hottest time of the day. Everyone was sweltering, especially the bride...who was wearing one of those corsets that looked like the one Scarlett O'Hara wore in "Gone With The Wind". Even though her dress was strapless, that tight corset made her look like she was going to faint. ~ hot day hugs with lots of Sunshine Lyra |

Thanks so much, Marti... My little cousins who live underneath our family room deck are also feeling the heat. I noticed that they come out just for a few minutes to grab the sunflower seeds we leave for them. They just stuff them in their cheek pouches and run right back into their air conditioned burrow. ~ sweaty chipmunk hugs Lyra |

Thanks so much Eric, Lemonade sounds good to me. I am an expert at making lemonade. Do you remember the old saying "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade"....Well I have gotten so many lemons over the past few years that I have gotten very good at lemonade... I have my own special recipe. ~ hugs and lemons Lyra |

Thanks Noah... Its amazing how many of you have mentioned lemonade... please read my replies to Eric and Martie... I am quite good at making lemonade, and all I have to do to watch the chipmunks is to look in the mirror LOL...at least that shows me one chipmunk anyway. ~ superchipmunk hugs Lyra |

Thanks Paladin, I remember those also. My mother also always kept plastic covers on her livingroom furniture, and I have always wondered why people even have furniture if no one is allowed to sit on it. ~ plastic slipcovered hugs Lyra |
