I've spent some time in introspection. Tried to figure it all out... Why I act the way I do- Just what it's all about... Why the streak of wanderlust- That makes me want to hide... Out where only wild things go- Beyond the Great Divide. What is it that I'm seeking- And never seem to find? What vagary of fortune- Seems to seize, and hold my mind? The love for which I'm longing- Never did exist- Outside the prose of novels... Or the poet's dreamy mists. Why am I still living- When so many friends are dead? A kaleidoscope of persons- Of whom I've heard, or read... And what fate does await me- At the end of this my road? Toward which the past does drive me- Like a fierce and pointed goad. |

Gunslinger This questioning sounds so familiar...maybe a human connection here, my friend...we all ask, and don't always find the answer. I've found looking to be interesting. A good introspective poem! |
