You must have believed,
as you took a whimsy, held it
between fantasy and
reverie

next, to whisper a tremble
awaking it
then watched as water danced

you held him close, oh so briefly,
his wayward smile in sleep gentle
from your heart songs

you filled his mind, then,
concocting emotions of
eagerness, poetry and achieve

oh, loves you instilled,
all of art but blessing song a little
more, running strained tunes
along his spine to enjoy
his chill in savoring
a voice

then, commingling sense to
sensibilities, adding raw flavors of
heightened sensations
so he would become ever desirous

but for all of the blessings
bestowed, you made him wait

though he hunted and explored,
a soul’s mate to find
each promise of love was not to be

his call was never truly heard

you stirred his wishes until you were
content to allow him to permit the
simmer of time, lulling him
into a false sense
that he would never know his true love

and then
