Your shadow darkened my door As I lay dreaming in the night And heard the pounding, pounding. You came in, I know you did, But your dream-face, to me Was that of a pirate, eye patch And all, with silky white hair. And in my dream, you spoke to me, As I desperately whimpered nine-one-one Into the dream phone at my ear, In response to your loud And frightening entrance- At which you laughed and bent and said Softly to me, “You have a three minute wait.” Did you pass your hand before My closed eyes, that I should Not wake in your presence? Such was my stupor. But in my mind, the frying Pan was cast iron, And wouldn’t have mattered, Anyway; and such were my Efforts on the telephone That I didn’t hear the rest Of what you said you would Do to me…and in between, Me: “Don’t you dare.” Because you weren’t there When I awakened, My door firmly locked Behind you.
