On A Journey To The Unknown

When he and I met, he had nearly seven years of sobriety
An old friend started coming around, he threw it all away
I remember how he use to be, before he started drinking
He was such a kind and loving man and everything was okay

After he started drinking, so many things about him changed
I just could not understand what had happened. Was it, me?
I gave him all of the love I had to give and so much more
There was nothing I would not do for him, then, you see

When he started calling me names, it hurt me so much inside
Then aside from the names he called me, he did a little more
After awhile I felt different about him and filled with such anger
I felt so guilty for not feeling the same about him, as I did before

There really is no use in talking to him, when he's been drinking
I might as well be talking to the wall, I don't think he even hears me
He gets up the next morning and acts as if there is nothing wrong
I refuse to pretend with him, that he did nothing wrong you see

He is drinking more and more each day and staying out late at night
I wonder if he really means the things he is always saying to me
The things that he has said and done, he never does even remember
To tell him the things he did or said, with me he always disagrees

If only he would stay away from all of his friends and stop drinking
Maybe then I would be able to have my loving and caring man back
I sometimes wonder if I can ever love him like I did in the beginning
I wish the man I married and loved so much, would just come back

I remember the way he use to be, how good, kind and loving he was
Silently I have cried so many tears, wishing he was like he use to be
The love I once felt for him was so strong, I think it must still be there
Because, once in a while I feel it, but just not as strong as it use to be

It's a shame that some people just don't see what's important in life. I am sorry for your pain. I've seen and felt it tear lives apart. My heart is with you.

When he's drinking he's not thinking
It's a lie not remembering hurting you
I know, because I've been there too

You can't help him Sue, nobody can, he himself is the only one.

He CHOOSES not to remember it~

Dear Sue, First I congratulate you on a most difficult write. This must have been very hard for you indeed. Then I want to say, please think about yourself first...this is a disease..the drinking...and not your fault in anyway. We are all here for you sweet lady. If you ever need someone to talk to please email me. This is a tragic tale I have heard many times over...you are not alone.
