Rites Of Passage He possesses a simple naiveté, convinced in his righteousness, absolved to make his point known, fierce not to be proven wrong. His dress betrays his self-doubt: modern rags, but not understood, a striving for individuality, but in accordance with sameness. His girl revels in his humor, pushes his ego to new limits, props him up when he stumbles, and utterly believes in him. His father has no illusions of fortune; his son has no hope of redemption. His brother laughs at his failings; his mother utterly believes in him. He is what he is, and yet is unformed: Years in the making; weeks in the undoing. Alternately happy & sad; concurrently strong & afraid. These are the rites of passage. These *are* the right passageways A turn here, a straight line, a crooked destination, a future beckoning with a grim seriousness. The ultimate exploration... ...and he will never leave his soul to go there. -- ~~ -- (another personal archive under my old poet name of b.Picasso) [This message has been edited by ShadowRider (06-30-2002 11:14 PM).] |

this poem reminded me of a Happy2BHardcore beat called RUN TO ME. At one point in the song the vocals scream "You're gonna ruuun to me ouuut of your soul" i dunno when i read this i thought about myself and alot of people i know to tell you the truth. hey if this person you speak of convinced himself that there is no right and wrong, then he would no longer be fierce to defend his beliefs. I guess maybe the fiercness in protecting the truth that there is, indeed, no "right" or "wrong".. but thats hogg pogg rebel talk apparently |

Jeff darling boy OH MY WORD this is seriously excellent writing, the flow of this is perfect, and the content utterly utterly full of truth. I simply can’t believe how far this had fallen with only one reply, I know its not because this doesn't deserve aclaim, I think it may well be simply because the time of posting coincided with a lot of others posting so it falls far too quickly. And not everyone goes looking for the gems. I do but then I always try to seek out your writing and this of course you know. You know how I rhapsodise over your writing, well this time I can’t give you plaudits enough. I know I’d never be able to write even half as well as this but I really wish I could. I’m always telling you that you are in my top five, and you are, this is perfectly lovely. I love it utterly utterly utterly Superb writing Love and warm stuff As always Mushy Breathe through the heat of our desire |

Thank you so much, y'all, and to Maaaasha for the bonus-bump. It is a coming-of-age poem about how confusing those middle teen years are. My boys, both grown now, depended so much on their girlfriends and friends for their self-esteem. Now, as they mature, they turn more and more back to the teachings of their parents, and i hear thanks from them, in increasing frequency, much to my heart's delight. It's a wondrous time, but its also fraught with puzzling contradictions and self-doubt. This is about that. Thankx again, Y'all! Jeff |
