Ocean Haiku
.
.
.
.
.
Seashore’s quiet pool
red starfish moves lazily
sun glints water glass
.
.
.
Salt scent in breeze
dark wet mussel clings
sunlit seaweed
.
.
.
Ridged dunes nudge the sky
salt winds whip sand white on blue
distant sea a line
.
.
.
Incoming tide swells
sea spray leaps over boulders
screaming gulls seize fish
.
.
.
Ocean fog obscures
old blind man knows direction
hears familiar shores
.
.
.
The last haiku is a true story of my father’s final boat trip,
to his familiar San Juan Islands, when he was eighty.
He knew all the coves of the islands he had visited
for so many years, and was able to guide the
small boat back to shore by sound alone,
when no one else could see
anything at all.

This collection will find a cozy spot in my library. Thank you, for such beautiful snapshots of nature, and of your father's journey.

my favorite too. I thank you kindly, I asked for more, and you more than obliged. I admire this ability much...haiku is something me can't do!

I read your words and felt stillness inside.
That is a rare thing for me. Thank you.

*sigh*
I love your stories

How grave is my condition, for I cannot find the words to say, I need you so.

Thank you so much, nakdthoughts, Elizabeth, devina, Midnitesun, serenity, Temptress!

I loved your interest in haiku, serenity, because I’ve been writing haiku for months on end now, and virtually no place to share it! Fun to write, fun to share!

I appreciate your comments SOOO much, everyone!
