Thou Shalt Not Kill

On nature’s pathway I once tread
Into it’s glory I was led
In coolness of the forest green
Unrest turned into thoughts serene

A hillside lush with leaf and fern
Was classroom for the soul to learn.
So many visions passing by
But introspection caught my eye

No creature stirred nor showed it’s face
To an intruder of their space
All living beasts innately still
In silent thought,” Thou shalt not kill"

No such intention ever cast
It’s sweeping wing upon my past
And now my thoughts went far beyond
The hill of green and summer pond

Some words engraved on face of stone
Invading places of my own
And challenging what I believe
They uttered, ‘Thou shalt not deceive”

The phrases etched came piercing through
“Give honor to whom honor’s due”
My outer skin the message pealed
And bit by bit my soul revealed

“Thou shalt not want what is not thine
No other God shall have a shrine”
What gem may to the eye appeal
Though little worth, “Thou shalt not steal”

Then in the stillness of the air
I saw the shrine that wasn’t there
On forest path my feet had trod
To this, the holy house of God

And all of nature is His breath
That churns the winds of life and death
In time the forest came alive
With furry foot and watchful eyes

Elizabeth ... this is absolutely wonderful!

What a glorious piece ... I think I sighed in admiration all the way through reading this ...

So perfectly in rhythm, and so superbly thought-out. This is a treasure, and one I'm going to tuck away to read again and again. I just loved this!

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit
