Christmas Eve in N’Awlins There were no hustling bustling big breasted women, no, no, not on Christmas Eve… there were no parades, no fanfare no savoir faire, no lady fair not on Christmas Eve… we walked the streets to feel replete before we ate, to completely sate two alone on Christmas Eve… I did not know the lady then for she has only come to me, now, when she said “it’s a state of mind” French Quarter N’Awlins On Christmas Eve We walked the streets, just two of us heels clicking in the quiet, there, on Christmas Eve… soft the sounds of quiet round and ghosts did speak on Christmas Eve the buildings, warm, told of stories and storms then, on Christmas Eve and quietly she spoke, a state of mind awoke then, on Christmas Eve N’Awlins called my name to me it sounded sweet, Karilea in echoes of Christmas Eve A state of mind? Oh yes, I’ll find My where in when there, some then, some future Christmas Eve. ~*~ Dedicated to the Serene One... [This message has been edited by Sunshine (06-05-2002 08:06 PM).] |

As ever beautiful poetry Sunshine . I found this poem amazingly spiritual (If a poem can be spiritual - oh well, I know what I'm talking about) ... 'We walked the streets, just two of us heels clicking in the quiet, there, on Christmas Eve… soft the sounds of quiet round and ghosts did speak on Christmas Eve' ...This entire part of the poem I especially liked; Enjoyed it . Not the christmases in New Orleans I remember but a wonderful write by you my friend. Did you know N'Awlins (the word) is a fairly recent invention. I was born and raised there and never heard it called N'Awlins until the last 15 or so years. And nobody I know down there calls it that. Funny how names of places become prominent, isn't it.?? (of course I may not have run in the "proper" circles...) Again...REALLY enjoyed the read. jwesley [This message has been edited by jwesley (06-05-2002 08:47 PM).] |

aw....thank you!!! I really do love this city, and I guess it shows...the boyfriend wanted to move to Mississippi, and I quite seriously told him "I will miss you." And the kids chimed in, "yes, Dad, call us often, okay?" As jwesley pointed out, she does have her faults, and there are many who would trade the old world charm for "progress"--but we do happen to have a few fighters for preservation--Anne Rice being very active in that capacity! Thank you Karilea---and? my friend wrote a very charming Christmas song about New Orleans..."Christmas on Bourban Street"--If I find my copy, I'll be happy to share it with you! Thanks again! |

Well written, Karilea - I had to read the last stanza carefully to fully enjoy the subtle currents in this poem, and that is the way it should be with a fine poem such as this. |
