I now find what was once enveloped by an impenetrable stronghold is adamantly invading from all directions through the cracks of my deserted front line my feelings are the only casualty in a war that must be fought Through an uninterrupted barrage of missiles her images continue to pierce my mind somehow I manage to evade and survive this attack yet on the horizon I see reinforcements on their way it is within the crossfire of emotions that I am now hopelessly caught Running for cover amidst the downpour the molten shrapnel impairs my senses as the shockwaves force me to my knees echoes of the battles in the distance once again instill me fear of defeat Taking refuge in the trenches the overbearing explosions of mortars are shaking the ground around me with courage being a momentary shortfall my instincts order me to retreat While I turn and try to run away I realize I am surrounded by an enemy whose only intention is to kill thoughts of triumph now engulf me valiantly bringing me back to my feet Now that the smoke has cleared and silence fills the pungent air I realize my battle is far from over unable to look ahead into the future from this haze of the past clouding my eyes With my weapon firmly by my side from this battle I now start to march knowing tomorrow I will find another my honor and will to be free still remain my only true allies Staring into the sun just makes you blind to what beauty actually exists in the sky. |

powerofthysword, I may be wrong, but I read this as if you are running from a love you are not sure you want to be running from. Your description of a battle in a killing war, describes a lot of one-time-couples. You paint a great picture with your words, ME |

Thanx Mother Earth, I did kinda write this with a past experience in mind. I tried to get over a woman that left me unexpectedly, and it was seriously a battle day by day. Thanx a lot for your kind words. Paul Staring into the sun just makes you blind to what beauty actually exists in the sky. |

unable to look ahead into the future from this haze of the past clouding my eyes ================== I especially loved this phrase. I enjoyed this piece tremendously. Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write. |

quote: When all is lost in any battle, the best thing to do is retreat or surrender. Keep marching, one day you will be far enough away to not hear those echoes anymore. Powerfully done, I enjoyed this very much~ |
