My Souvenirs

Letters worn from age are in my box
Along with child’s tress of golden locks
And a bracelet with some charms I’ve kept
Filled with memories that so slyly crept
As I reminisced through countless years
Among my golden souvenirs

None have touched me as your photograph
I can still recall your pleasant laugh
You have warmed my heart with just one glance
Into a box where I have saved romance
For the only way I kept you, dear
Was as a treasured souvenir

Here is powder from the rose you gave
Now the dust is all that I can save
I have even kept your college ring
Which I cherish more than anything
Though the diamond never did appear
As a promised souvenir

Stars and moon and crimson sunset skies
Ocean waves and rocking lullabies
A stroll beneath the green of campus leaves
All were saved beneath the attic eaves
Til my heart convinced me of the fears
That I would lose my souvenirs

As I gaze into the evening sky
I still ask myself the reasons why
All the stars remember us that night
When they filled your eyes with soft delight
As the end of life now slowly nears
Dreams are still my souvenirs

In the corner of an aging eye
Are the years that passed so quickly by
There’s a teardrop that I can’t withhold
Just another souvenir of gold
How it hesitates before it slips
And falters on my dying lips

Elizabeth
What a lovely reflect on your souvenir memoirs.
The rhyme scheme and the flow of this poem is superb!
Love the warmth of the memories in this verse...
"None have touched me as your photograph
I can still recall your pleasant laugh
You have warmed my heart with just one
                                  glance
Into a box where I have saved romance
For the only way I kept you, dear
                        Was as a treasured souvenir"
Wonderful poetry from your pen, as usual.
